Astronaut Mark Vande Hei sets a record by staying on the ISS for 341 days

NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei is about to set a record for longest spaceflight, accompanied by Russian cosmonaut Pyotr Dubrov. The astronauts reached the International Space Station (ISS) on April 9, 2021. Vande Hei, who has been working since then, has equaled the NASA astronaut record for the longest stay on the ISS, held by astronaut Scott Kelly in 2016. Vande Hei, whose duty is still continuing, became the owner of the new record today.

The team plans to return to Earth next month. When they return, they will have the record of staying on the ISS for 355 days. The team did not know that they would actually break records at the beginning of their mission. Because they first flew to the ISS with a 6-month mission planning. But changes to crew rotation schedules in the fall led to longer stays and a new record. NASA President Bill Nelson congratulated the astronauts with these words.
