IBM profit increases significantly – share increases

IBM has significantly increased profits in the past quarter. The computer company earned a bottom line of 927 million dollars (846 million euros) in the first quarter, more than a quarter more than a year earlier. Meanwhile, sales grew 0.4 percent year-on-year to $14.25 billion, IBM announced on Wednesday. After analysts’ profit expectations were exceeded, the share gained a good three percent in after-hours trading in the US.

Software sales grew 2.6 percent to $5.92 billion in the first quarter. In the consulting business there was an increase of 2.8 percent to 4.96 billion dollars. Adjusted for exchange rate developments, IBM expects sales to increase by three to five percent for the year as a whole.
