Signal, described as one of the most secure messaging applications, gets the expected feature. Signal announced that they will introduce the feature of using a username into the application to increase its security.
Signal can be used with username
The new feature, which started to be tested in the past months, has finally become available to everyone. Making a statement on the subject, Jim O’Leary, Signal’s head of engineering, said: “As a result of the tests we conducted within ourselves, it is time for us to give the good news. “Our users will now have the opportunity to message more securely by hiding their phone numbers.” He stated:
The use of phone numbers in messaging applications makes it easier to access users’ sensitive information through different scenarios such as number copying or phishing attacks. The idea, which was first put forward by the Signal team in 2019, managed to reach the end user after 4 years.

Google asked the European Union to review Apple’s iMessage service. He stated that this application is basic in messaging.
In an interview with Time magazine, Signal foundation president Meredith Whittaker said, “Thanks to the new feature, you will be able to communicate with the other person without giving your phone number. You will have the opportunity to message safely by simply giving the username you registered with the application.” she said.
It is worth noting that the messaging feature with username has been used in the Telegram application for a long time. It is estimated that WhatsApp will offer users a similar technology in the future.
