Dusseldorf A raid on an accounting firm is relatively unusual. But at PwC, around 30 police officers, public prosecutors and tax investigators have been searching the offices in Frankfurt since Wednesday morning. Investigators are investigating suspicions that PwC customers may have engaged in large-scale tax evasion.

A spokesman for the Cologne public prosecutor confirmed the measure. “The search is aimed at finding relevant communications in the form of emails and other written correspondence,” he said. It is about cum-ex transactions of a bank for which the auditing company is acting in an advisory capacity. It is therefore a search of a third party.

A spokesman for PwC said when asked: “We are witnesses in a procedure and are cooperating with the authorities.” At the center of the current investigation is the PwC customer DSK Hyp, a German subsidiary of the Swedish bank SEB.
