US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen He gave a speech at today’s meeting of the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee.
The focus of the deputies attending the committee meeting was the issue of tightening sanctions against the Russian government.
Nydia Velásquez, a US Democrat, told Janet Yellen:Most of the lawmakers in this committee are very concerned that Russia is using cryptocurrencies to evade the imposed sanctions. How does the Department of the Treasury deliver on this commitment?” he asked.
On this question, Treasury Secretary Yellen stated that the ministry is working to prevent the Russian government from avoiding sanctions by using cryptocurrencies and said:
“We have not seen the Russian government attempt to evade sanctions through the use of cryptocurrencies so far, but we are monitoring crypto initiatives carefully.”
US Secretary of Haine Janet Yellen is also expected to speak at an event organized by the American University tomorrow at 17.30.
At this event, Yellen will share her thoughts on what cryptocurrencies look like as an emerging part of the economy.
In Yellen’s speech, Joe Biden is expected to share his thoughts on the order issued on cryptocurrencies in early March.
