Munich Puma boss Björn Gulden is facing a change to the crisis-ridden competitor Adidas. The Norwegian announced his departure from Puma at the end of the year on Friday. Shortly thereafter, Adidas confirmed talks about a move.

Investors celebrated the imminent change of guilders. The Adidas share increased by 29 percent to 121 euros when the first speculations made the rounds. Since the beginning of the year, the share had lost more than half of its value. The Puma share, on the other hand, fell by four percent to 44.50 euros.

Arne Freundt, who was promoted to the board as Chief Commercial Officer last year, will become the new Puma boss on January 1st. The 42-year-old has been given a four-year contract.

“Adidas is looking for someone with a career like Gulden,” said an industry insider to the Handelsblatt. “He would fit perfectly and could bring in a different corporate culture.”
