Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland becomes a playable character in Clash of Clans this week. While this is the first time a real person has been added to the game as a playable player, the fact that this person is Haaland makes the situation much more interesting.
Erling Haaland is coming to Clash of Clans as the ‘Barbarian King’ character
World star Erling Haaland will transform into the Barbarian King character during the month-long football-themed seasonal Clash of Clans event.
Clash players will have the chance to recruit the Norwegian football player to join their squad or pillage and destroy his village. If you don’t support City, we can say it’s a perfect opportunity.
So how did this interesting collaboration come about? Erling Haaland has been playing Clash of Clans for over 10 years. So he approached Supercell, the Finnish game developer behind the popular mobile game, asking for a partnership.
Supercell was delighted with this opportunity. Stuart McGaw, general manager of Clash of Clans, said in a statement: “When we heard that Erling Haaland was a fan of our game and wanted to collaborate with us, our dream came true” said.
Haaland was about 10 years old when he first discovered Clash and built an in-game village in the fantasy-themed world. He also says the following about cooperation: “I’ve been a huge fan of the game for a long time and know everything about it, so appearing as an in-game character is really cool.”
The special Haaland season starts tomorrow and runs until May 31, and if you take down Haaland on the battlefield you’ll earn additional rewards and a spot on the leaderboards.
