The Indian government is not participating in the US, European and Japanese sanctions against Russia.

Dusseldorf, Sao Paolo, Cape Town, Cucuta, New Delhi For India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the matter is clear: the war in Ukraine is a problem for Europe. “Europe must outgrow the mindset that Europe’s problems are the world’s problems, but the world’s problems are not Europe’s problems,” is Jaishankar’s conviction, which has now also been quoted by Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

India again abstained on the recent United Nations resolution condemning the Russian attack. Although Prime Minister Narendra Modi regularly has his diplomats declare that the present cannot be “a time of war”, he refrains from condemning Russia. India continues to obtain arms from Russia, buys large quantities of crude oil from there and does not want to join Western sanctions against Russia.
