Last Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the newly developed Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile system, which will make all Moscow’s enemies think twice, will be tested.
Participating in a program broadcast live on Russian television, Putin said that the test of the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile system was successfully carried out. He claimed that the targets placed on the Kamchatka peninsula, which is about 6 thousand kilometers away, were destroyed with a full hit, with a shot from a facility in Plesetsk. Immediately after this announcement, the news made headlines in the world press.
Of course, the USA and Europe have been aware of the existence of this missile for a long time. Already in the past period, NATO officials stated that they followed the development process closely, so the details were estimated. However, it is said that the test date of this missile, which has not been taken out of the hangar for decades, sends a message to the whole world, just as Putin has mentioned, to make his enemies think twice.
Speaking on a live broadcast on the subject, Putin said in his statement:
This new complex, the missile with the highest tactical and technical characteristics (Sarmat), is capable of overcoming all modern anti-missile defense vehicles. It’s like no other in the world and won’t be for a long time.
This truly unique (Putin claims, no SPG can stop) weapon will strengthen the combat potential of our armed forces. It will reliably ensure Russia’s security against external threats. It will give an idea (about what may happen to them) to those who try to threaten our country with the heat of crazy aggressive rhetoric.
In recent weeks, Putin has ordered the entire Russian military’s nuclear forces to be placed on high alert. In fact, with this, he warned Europe and the USA not to participate directly in the Ukraine war.
This missile test made now can be considered as a similar situation. Although US officials say that they are closely monitoring the situation and that they can intervene if necessary, the Pentagon is said to be on high alert and worried during the test.
