In view of the increased energy prices, many employees are concerned about how much they will have to pay extra for working from home.

Berlin Since the corona pandemic, working from home has become the norm in many companies. In times of the energy crisis, some employers are considering expanding the home office: for example, the insurer Hannover Re, Airbus or forklift manufacturer Jungheinrich are considering closing individual office spaces and letting employees work more at their desks at home.

For 62 percent of German companies, such an expansion of the home office is currently an option, according to a survey by the Randstad personnel consultancy.

In the meantime, uncertainty is likely to arise among the employees concerned: To what extent will they pay more in the home office – and bear the increased energy costs that their employers save by moving to the home office? The consumer portal Verivox has calculated exclusively for the Handelsblatt how much additional costs will arise if the home office becomes a permanent winter situation.
