The visual, in which women of different cultures, races and physical characteristics were shown together, was appreciated in the social media. March 8, International Women’s Day, is celebrated as the representation of women’s struggle to have the same rights as men.
History of March 8, International Women’s Day
The history of this struggle regarding the equality of men and women actually dates back to 1848. However, history was made in 1917 when women in Russia protested and went on strike for “bread and peace” on February 23. February 23 in Russia corresponded to March 8 in other European countries. This is how the first foundations of the idea of celebrating 8 March Women’s Day were laid.
The United Nations General Assembly adopted the commemoration of 8 March as “International Women’s Day” on 16 December 1977. In Turkey, 8 March International Women’s Day was celebrated for the first time in 1921 as “Working Women’s Day”. 2022 International Women’s Day will be celebrated on March 8 with the theme “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”
