Why Asia leads in heat pumps

With heat pumps, the world market leader from Japan benefits from a completely different development history of heating culture.

Tokyo Germany needs heat pumps for the heating transition – fast and lots of them. The sale of the air conditioning division of the medium-sized company Viessmann to the USA has now highlighted the production capacities of the industry. Because Viessmann also sells in order to be able to ramp up production on an industrial level. Other nations are leaders in the world market.

Chinese companies in particular are trying to increase their exports to Germany. Traditionally, the Japanese are also strong in the market. Eight of the 21 largest providers in Europe listed by the market research company Global Market Insights come from Asia or belong to Asian companies – and five of these are from Japan.

A special feature of the East Asian manufacturers of heat pumps is that they are large corporations. In Japan these are companies such as Panasonic, Daikin, Toshiba and Mitsubishi Electric, which is also fighting for market share in Europe with its US acquisition Trane. The same applies to the South Korean electronics groups Samsung and LG.
