Olaf Scholz Has Poland defended against criticism, to strengthen its border with Belarus more and more. The EU partner is facing a very dramatic challenge and needs solidarity, said the SPD politician on Monday evening at an event in the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. When asked whether he was in favor of building a wall on the EU’s external border, the chancellor-designate said one Ampel-Coalition: “I think that if the Polish government makes such a decision, it is not up to us to say not to do it.”
Scholz demanded “Clear, tough” sanctions against the Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. He was a “very bad dictator” and had lost all legitimacy. One had to work to ensure that a democratic process could take place in Belarus. He also supported EU sanctions against airlines and aid for the people in the Belarusian-Polish border area. It was important also support for people returning to their homeland.
