Dusseldorf Heating with gas is becoming expensive – the Research Institute for Thermal Insulation Munich (FIW) has now determined exactly how expensive in a study. Accordingly, residents of low-energy, uninsulated houses have to adjust to price increases of 150 percent. In a family home, gas heating and hot water could cost 12,000 euros in a year.

The study compares several scenarios: It calculates the total costs for space heating and hot water using gas for one year for five different insulation standards, six different gas prices and two different apartment sizes.

Gas prices have risen enormously in recent months due to the conflict with the major gas supplier Russia. On the stock exchange, they have increased sevenfold compared to August 2021. Gas suppliers therefore have to buy gas at high costs and are increasingly passing these prices on to household customers.
