A restaurateur’s hotel in a Grade I listed telegraph office and a hotel with a football background. A break with tradition, which is a lot of fun at the Munich Do&Co and the Berlin Telegraph Office. The two extremely modern establishments make the established, self-proclaimed grand hotels in Berlin and Munich look rather dated. I looked up why this is so on the spot and immediately tracked down a few insider tips for the modern hotel industry.

Let’s start with my visit to Berlin, at the Hotel Telegraphenamt. The listed building in the Mitte district, right next to Monbijoupark, was actually the telegraph office. The house was built between 1910 and 1916. From here, messages were sent through the city via a roughly 400-kilometer-long underground pneumatic tube network.
