Data from research firm Mediascope revealed that daily users drastically declined in the first seven months of 2022 after the social networks Facebook and Instagram were banned in Russia. While the number of users of Facebook decreased 8 times after the developments, Instagram users decreased to 1 in 4.

The Instagram user base fell 21.5 percent in March, from 37.8 million in February to 30 million. In April, this figure melted to 14.2 million. The average daily number of users accessing Instagram in July dropped to 10.6 million.

On the Facebook front, there is a significant decrease in the number of users. The number of daily users, which was 9 million in February, decreased to 1.9 million in July. On the other hand, Facebook logins lasting more than 5 minutes fell from 2.7 million to 305 thousand.

After all the developments, the profitable side was Telegram. The app’s average daily audience has grown by 66 percent. Telegram managed to increase the number of daily users from 25 million in January to 41.5 million in July.

On the other hand, Russia’s popular social media platform VKontakte did not experience a similar increase. According to Mediascope data, the number of users of VK has increased from 46 million to just 50 million since January.
