Dusseldorf Anyone who currently buys an air heat pump has to pay between 10,000 and 20,000 euros. If the device is attached to the house, there is technical equipment worth a small car on the property. Thieves are also increasingly discovering this potential.

There are still isolated cases when, as in May in Wiesmoor in East Friesland, heat pumps and a heating system worth a total of 60,000 euros are stolen from several building shells, or when criminals unscrew the heat pump of a club house in the district of Düren in North Rhine-Westphalia at night.

But if homeowners are not careful, they will be left with the costs if their heat pump is stolen. Because homeowners insurance usually covers the house and permanently installed objects inside, such as the heating system. Heat pumps that are installed outside the house are therefore not always insured. Home contents insurance does not pay for theft of the heat pump either.
