So far, homeowners have mostly failed in their striving for a heat and energy self-sufficient life due to the long-term storage of solar energy.

Berlin In view of the high energy prices, many homeowners in Germany are flirting with solar power from their own roof. According to a recent survey by the Hamburg market research institute Appinio, one in four people who previously only purchased electricity from the energy supplier plans to install a solar system in the next twelve months.

About half of those questioned said they were undecided or could only imagine having their own solar system later; for 24 percent this is not even an option.

According to the information, around 1,000 homeowners were interviewed online for the survey at the beginning of the month. The survey was representative of age and gender, it said. It was carried out on behalf of the Dresden company Solarwatt.

Potential savings in energy costs were named as the most common reason for having your own solar system. Further arguments are greater independence from the energy market and the concern to do something for the environment.
