Netherlands extend lockdown and prefer vacation – WHO criticizes refreshment programs in rich countries

The World Health Organization WHO criticizes corona refreshment offers for everyone in rich countries, while millions of people around the world are still waiting for their first dose of vaccine. There is no evidence that this helps against the omicron variant, said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in Geneva on Tuesday.

“The WHO is concerned that such (refresher) programs will restore the hoarding of corona vaccines, as we have seen this year, and thus increase inequality,” said Tedros.

The WHO is not generally against refreshmentssaid Tedors. But it’s about priorities. “If booster vaccinations are given to groups at low risk of serious illness or death, it simply puts the lives of high-risk people waiting for their first doses of vaccine due to supply shortages at risk,” said Tedros.
