Berlin Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) rejects the demands of Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) to make two percent of the state’s area available for wind power expansion. “In Bavaria, less areas are suitable for wind power, so that there would have to be a lot of wind turbines in a few areas – with all the acceptance problems that this triggers in the population,” Söder told the Handelsblatt.

He is therefore skeptical of the initiative by the Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Change. “There are also strong concerns among nature and species conservationists on site. Obviously, the Greens no longer seem to give special importance to species protection, ”added the CSU boss.

Söder admitted that Bavaria is not at the top when it comes to wind power expansion. But there is no lack of political will, “it is due to the topography,” said Söder. “In Bavaria there are much less suitable areas for wind power than in northern Germany, for example.”
