Living in the bacon belt – real estate markets in the price range

Dusseldorf Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, more people than ever have wanted a house in the country and plenty of space. Figures like those of the real estate portal Immoscout24 prove the new love for the countryside: In June 2021, advertised single-family houses for sale in the bacon belts of the German cities of Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Cologne received around 58 percent more inquiries than before the first Corona lockdown in February 2020 .

And the Purchase prices for apartments in non-urban areas rose faster than in cities in the twelve months to mid-2021 – for the first time since the early 1990s, as the major Swiss bank UBS demonstrated.

But when looking for a new home, it is still worth taking a look beyond the boundaries of the big cities for those interested in real estate. The Handelsblatt has the Analysis of residential property markets on the fringes of seven German metropolises and shows what price differences there are in the bacon belts of Hamburg, Munich, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Cologne and what to look out for when buying.
