Should fracking also be allowed in Germany? The experts argue.

Dusseldorf For decades, Germany obtained gas from the reliable supplier Russia. But at least since the war of aggression against Ukraine, it has been clear that there will be no return to the days when natural gas from Russia dominated the German energy market.
As a result, new sources are coming to the fore, including the so-called unconventional gas deposits in Germany, which can be exploited with fracking. In this process, liquid is pumped into deep layers of rock at high pressure so that they break open. The gas contained in the rock escapes from the resulting cracks.
The technology has been used in the USA for many years. Fracking was banned in Germany for fear of environmental damage. The former North Rhine-Westphalian Economics Minister Andreas Pinkwart (FDP) calls for the ban to be reviewed, while Sascha Müller-Kraenner, Federal Director of the German Environmental Aid (DUH), contradicts him in a dispute with Handelsblatt Green.
