Wiesbaden After a small summer slump, more apartments were approved again in Germany in September. With 30,952 units, the number rose by 3.9 percent compared to August, seasonally and calendar adjusted, as the Federal Statistical Office reported on Monday.

For the first three quarters of this year, there is an increase of 5.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Two-family houses in particular saw strong growth of 28.6 percent over the year, while 23.4 percent fewer apartments were approved in dormitories than in the first three quarters of 2020.

The number of building permits is an important indicator of new construction in the fight against the housing shortage in many cities. In some cases, however, apartments are approved but not initially built – for example because craftsmen and construction companies have no capacity due to the high demand for real estate.
