Game of Thrones author files lawsuit against OpenAI

As technology has advanced significantly in recent years, investments in the field of artificial intelligence have also increased significantly. At this point, giant technology companies such as Microsoft, Google and OpenAI have come to the fore.

Of course, artificial intelligence has not been without its benefits as well as its harms. Language models based on artificial intelligence tools that learn information by reading billions of texts endanger important professions such as writing. According to recent developments, a lawsuit has been filed for OpenAI’s language model GPT.

Authors do not want their work used to train OpenAI’s GPT language model

The Writers Guild of America and 17 famous authors, including George RR Martin, author of the world-famous book series, filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, in the Southern District of New York (Federal Court for the Southern District of New York).

The plaintiff authors cited OpenAI’s use of their own works to train the language model GPT and that their copyrights were violated. Arguing that the language model can produce works just like a writer and that this puts their jobs in danger, the plaintiffs ask the artificial intelligence giant not to use their works for education.

Countries also took their place in the artificial intelligence race. Europe’s rising star Aleph Alpha is preparing to dethrone OpenAI.

Making a statement to the US media outlet TheVerge about this case, OpenAI shared that discussions were held with organizations around the world, including the Authors Guild, regarding concerns such as copyright infringement.

OpenAI seems to be in trouble for copyright violations. Because there is no end to the lawsuits filed for this. Previously, world-famous writers Michael Chabon, Christopher Golden, Richard Kadrey and Comedian Sarah Silverman also filed a lawsuit citing copyright violations.
