Berlin Daniela Weiß was clear in 2021 that she would not continue with her former employer, the Cologne media company Ströer. Up to that point, things had gone uphill for her there: from key account manager, she first became department head, then she was made vice president. But the 38-year-old wanted to go higher. Ströer simply couldn’t do that.
Because there were no more vacancies above her in the hierarchy. There were still two senior vice presidents, with no sign of a change, and the management. “So it was crystal clear to me: Even if I say that I want to move up further, it will take too long for me,” says Weiß today. She left – and has since been the head of marketing at another major publishing house.
