Conservatism is in crisis

The general election produced a paradoxical result. The Germans voted against a real change in policy, but brought about a change in the political system.

The party system that has existed since 1949 is finally history with this election. With the Union, the last people’s party has left the stage. The conservatism crisis has also arrived in Germany.

The Federal Republic is catching up with what is normal in other countries. A decline of the conservatives can be seen there for a long time, only in different forms. In France and Italy, the conservative party has become meaningless and has given way to right-wing populist movements.

In the United States and Great Britain, the conservatives have been hijacked by populists. And in Austria there is a conservative chancellor who has made pacts with right-wing populists.
