Why the country dwellers are increasingly dissatisfied

Paris Threats and lawsuits are now the order of the day in France’s rural regions. Conflicts between new rural residents and farmers are increasing and growing in intensity everywhere. Some are looking for the idyll like in Astrid Lindgren’s Bullerbü, others just want to farm their land.

Agriculture has always played an important role in France, it is the most important agricultural country in the EU, far ahead of Germany and Italy.

In many regions, the local population is angry about the increased real estate prices – but not only. Even before the pandemic, many city dwellers moved to rural areas because they could no longer afford the real estate prices in the city. The pandemic has intensified the trend, working conditions have changed and working from home is becoming more and more accepted. City dwellers are therefore increasingly buying further away from the big cities.
