Munich Americans are familiar with the term “lame duck”, which describes people who are about to leave a management position and have little influence. Many older employees who are approaching their final years of work also feel like “lame ducks”.

Monika Müller is repeatedly confronted with such feelings. The psychologist and financial coach also knows other characters: “Those who look forward to retirement as a great freedom, or people who already have concrete plans and are full of energy.”

There is no doubt: on the emotional level of feelings, approaching retirement is one of the really big changes in people’s lives. In the past, farmers made room for their children when they reached a certain age and moved into the discharge house. The change was also spatial.
