Berlin Since Finance Minister Christian Lindner presented his bill for tax relief worth billions, there has been trouble in the traffic light coalition. The FDP boss finds his proposal “socially balanced” and emphasizes that he wants to relieve the “broad middle of society”.
The coalition partners see it differently. The Greens and parts of the SPD criticize that Lindner’s relief plan primarily benefits higher earners. Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) went on a confrontational course in an interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”: “I don’t see how we can argue in this situation that those who need less support are absolutely more relieved.”
But the project is not only being disputed within the coalition. Economists also assess the draft law very differently.
What are Lindner’s plans – and how much do they cost?
Christian Lindner sees his proposal as a “pure inflation adjustment”. The Minister of Finance is concerned with preventing an additional tax burden.
