Berlin Germany’s dependence on imports from China has increased further. This shows an analysis of Institute of the German Economy (IW) in Cologne, which is exclusively available to the Handelsblatt. The results are explosive: For months, the federal government has been appealing to the German economy to reduce dependency on the People’s Republic. She is concerned that the Chinese leadership is increasingly exploiting economic dependencies to achieve political goals.

The seventh German-Chinese intergovernmental consultations will take place on Tuesday – Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang had already met with German company representatives and had a dinner with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Monday.

The IW’s analysis now shows that dependence on Chinese imports has even increased in some areas. For example, in more than 70 percent of the product groups where at least half of the imports come from China, the China share increased even further in 2022.
