Berlin In the wage dispute with the online giant Amazon, which has been simmering for years, the Verdi union is calling on employees at ten locations in Germany to go on strike from Tuesday to Thursday. Amazon has repeatedly increased hourly wages in recent years and is now above the current minimum wage, said strike leader Monika Di Silvestre on Tuesday.

“However, the company management would never have done that voluntarily without the pressure of the strikes.” In fact, due to longer working hours and low or no special payments such as Christmas and vacation bonuses, the incomes of the employees often remained several hundred euros below those of employees in companies bound by collective agreements. The reason for the walkout is the bargain day “Prime Day” organized by Amazon.

The central strike day at all locations is Tuesday. The wage conflict at Amazon has been going on since 2013.

Workers in all German Amazon shipping centers are called to the walkouts: Bad Hersfeld (two locations), Leipzig, Werne, Graben, Rheinberg, Koblenz, Dortmund, Achim and Winsen. Workers at individual locations had already begun strike activities on Sunday.
