Vienna In order to resume the nuclear talks, Iran has called for the sanctions to be lifted with the aim of unhindered oil exports. “The most important thing for us is to get to a point where Iranian oil can be sold easily and unhindered,” said Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, according to the Iranian media, before the start of the eighth round of talks in Vienna on Monday.

In fact, according to Chinese representative Wang Qun, the focus of the new round will be on the sanctions. According to diplomats, the seventh round, which ended ten days earlier, was about limiting Iran’s nuclear activities in particular.

Under President Donald Trump, the United States withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal and imposed new sanctions on Iran. The government in Tehran does not publish any data on oil exports. However, it is estimated that the volume has fallen from around 2.8 million barrels per day (bpd) in 2018 to potentially as high as 200,000 bpd.
