Ukraine War: Can Arms Deliveries Decide Wars?

The US has invited defense ministers and other officials from 40 countries to a Ukraine conference this Tuesday at the US Ramstein Air Force Base near Kaiserslautern. These include countries that do not belong to NATO.

The goal of the meeting, chaired by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, is to ensure Ukraine’s “lasting security and sovereignty,” says Pentagon spokesman John Kirby. The focus is on the debate about which weapons Ukraine currently needs. And what equipment they need in the long term in order to be able to defend themselves even after the end of the war.

In German domestic politics, meanwhile, there is still a dispute as to whether the delivery of weapons – especially heavy weapons such as tanks, artillery, airplanes and helicopters – can decide the fighting in Ukraine’s favour. Opponents argue with two risks.
