Istanbul The Russian company Novatek showed a pioneering spirit. The company wanted to build a port terminal for liquid gas in the Obbusen, a Russian arm of the Arctic Sea. But since the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, the project has been on the brink of collapse: Western technology is lacking.

Until last Monday. Media reports appeared that the Turkish company Karpowership was negotiating with Novatek about getting involved in the project. The company is supposed to supply the energy via a ship’s power plant that should actually be generated by turbines belonging to the Texan oil company Baker Hughes. “The new solution is more expensive,” commented Russian energy analyst Yuri Melnikov in the Kommersant newspaper, “but there is simply no alternative under the current circumstances.”
