Turkey’s First Electric Autonomous Bus Launched

For the first time in Turkey, an autonomous electric bus hit the roads. Karsan’s e-ATAK model is used at ITU Ayazağa Campus.

Recently Istanbul Technical University, Ericsson and Turkcellsigned the 5G Technology Campus project with the event held at ITU Ayazağa Campus.

One of the most interesting points of the event was the local and national electric autonomous bus. When we examine the bus closely, we see that we should not wait that long to see it on the roads.

We’ve actually seen this bus before.

The bus in the video karsan produced by electric e-ATAK autonomous bus. The 8-meter-tall vehicle was put into use in Tampere, Finland, and became the country’s first electric autonomous bus. Now we see the vehicle in ITU Ayazağa Campus. Thus, e-ATAK succeeds in becoming the first domestic autonomous bus in its homeland.

LIDAR is used to detect the vehicle’s surroundings. Sensor technology called is used. Thus, the autonomous bus can detect the surrounding pedestrians, vehicles in traffic and other objects or living creatures that may come in its way. In addition, 5G technology is also used in the vehicle. It has not yet been tested in very limited areas. 5G connection Thanks to this, e-ATAK can react faster.

The regulation regarding the inclusion of fully autonomous vehicles in traffic in Turkey has not yet been completed. It seems that there is a driver inside this vehicle, but this driver is more responsible for intervening in emergency situations and acting as an operator. During the journey of the vehicle, the driver does not intervene in the bus unless absolutely necessary.
