new York Donald Trump strides onto the stage of the National Rifle Association – the most powerful gun lobby in the USA – to the song “God bless the USA”. For more than a minute he applauds the audience, points his finger at individual participants, stretches out his thumb and pumps his fist.
The audience cheers, shouts “USA! USA” as Trump walked to the microphone. “Unlike some others, I don’t disappoint you by not showing up!” he begins his speech. “You are the backbone of our movement and you are the backbone of our country.”
