Berlin The impasse in the controversial heating law continues. It is still unclear whether the Bundestag can decide on the plans for the heat transition by the summer, despite all the differences of opinion, especially between the Greens and the FDP.

Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) said on Wednesday at the Sparkasse Day in Hanover that they had come closer: “The evening yesterday was perhaps promising for it” to come to a good end. The evening before, Habeck met with the rapporteurs for the reform of the Building Energy Act (GEG).

The original draft law, which Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) and Building Minister Klara Geywitz (SPD) brought through the cabinet in April, stipulates that from 2024 every newly installed heating system should be operated with 65 percent renewable energy. In fact, this amounts to a ban on installing new oil and gas-only heating systems.
