London British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has suffered another setback as Conservative MP Christian Wakeford is leaving his party to join Labor in opposition. “We welcome Christian Wakeford,” Labor leader Keir Starmer said on Wednesday.

There were boos from the government bank. Johnson pointed out that Wakeford only got into Parliament thanks to the brilliant Tory victory in 2019 under his leadership in the Bury South constituency. “We will win again in Bury South,” said the Prime Minister.

Johnson has been under pressure for weeks over various scandals, including parties during the corona lockdown. According to media reports, numerous conservatives in his own ranks have also withdrawn their confidence and are aiming for a vote of no confidence in parliament.

Calling for a resignation, Johnson declined. He replied “no” to Liberal Democrat MP Wendy Chamberlain’s question about whether he would step down. He sincerely apologizes for any miscalculations that have been made.”

Chamberlain highlighted the Prime Minister’s “excuses” over Downing Street Party allegations, adding: “There is no excuse for fooling the British people.” Johnson said he would first await the results of an internal inquiry into the controversial parties, coming out next week, he said. Once again, the prime minister dodged specific questions about the course of lockdown parties at the seat of government.

After he had recently shown remorse, the prime minister now showed himself combative and sharply attacked his political opponent. If the opposition and Starmer had their way, the country would still be in lockdown, Johnson claimed. Thanks to his policies, however, Great Britain came through the pandemic economically well.
