This is the traffic light plan against China’s global influence

Brussels A lithium mine in Serbia, a train connection from Burkina Faso to the Ghanaian port of Takoradi, a data cable between Chile and Australia: With large-scale projects like these, the traffic light wants to push back China’s growing global influence. The investment projects are on a secret list that the German government sent to the EU Commission. The paper is available to the Handelsblatt.

The Berlin proposals are intended to give the EU initiative “Global Gateway” a helping hand. This is Europe’s answer to the Chinese “New Silk Road”. Beijing is having highways, ports and railway lines built around the world, the regime is forging networks and creating dependencies that extend as far as Europe.

EU Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen has proposed Global Gateway to counter China’s striving for power. The idea: the Commission, member states and the private sector should join forces to form “Team Europe”, mobilize 300 billion euros and join forces to push ahead with major infrastructure projects. The Federal Government had long urged the Commission to do so.
