According to the statement made by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, an operation was carried out with the crimes of “Qualified Theft, Blocking the Information System, Destroying or Modifying Data, Qualified Fraud”. As part of the fight against these crimes, action was taken yesterday, on March 14, 2023, for 64 suspects. According to the documents, suspicious individuals set up websites that share names similar to the websites of famous crypto exchanges in order to defraud users. Moreover, they managed to rank the fake sites created in the top rank in the search engine.

The scammers have created a near-real site with a URL like “paribugirstrr” by targeting exchanges operating in Turkey such as Paribu. In addition, they shared the site, which they rank high in search engines, on social media platforms in various ways. In their social media posts, for example, they made users click on the link by saying “Paribu is distributing special crypto money for its 5th anniversary”. After the users clicked on the link and entered their username and password, they also received the confirmation code from their GSM number. Then they seized the accounts of the customers and sent their crypto money especially to their crypto accounts abroad.
In this context, it turned out that many people residing in the country were defrauded. In addition, it was seen that there was a total of 50 million liras in the wallets of 64 suspects, including 2 Georgians and 1 Ukrainian citizen. The suspects were caught in a total of 18 different provinces, including cities such as Adana, Ankara, Bursa, Isparta, Istanbul and Mersin. 42 of the 64 suspects were caught. It is stated that the others are on the run, and it is stated that the hunt for these people continues.
