“The Deutschlandticket will come now”

49-euro Germany ticket

The federal and state governments had agreed to share the cost of the “Germany ticket” with 1.5 billion euros each. However, the federal states, like many transport companies, demanded more money from the federal government before the introduction because of the sharp rise in energy prices and tariff increases.

Berlin According to Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the federal and state governments have settled their dispute over the introduction of the nationwide 49-euro ticket in local public transport. “The Germany ticket will come now, also very quickly,” said the SPD politician on Thursday evening after consultations with the prime ministers of the federal states. “We have now eliminated all hurdles.” Scholz did not give any details. The federal states had previously demanded a higher federal contribution to the costs. In the federal states, April 1 next year was the last time the start date for the Germany ticket was discussed.

Shortly before the summit meeting with the federal government, the federal states made clear financial demands. After the meeting of the 16 prime ministers in Berlin, Lower Saxony’s head of state Stephan Weil (SPD) demanded on Thursday that the federal government have to raise more money for the decided introduction of a nationwide Germany ticket for 49 euros per month for local public transport.

The transport companies calculated the Germany ticket on the basis of a 69-euro ticket and then came up with a cost of three billion euros a year, said NRW state chief Hendrik Wüst (CDU). “If you then decide on a 49-euro ticket, you shouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t work out.”

Chancellor Olaf Scholz received the 16 prime ministers on Thursday afternoon. At the meeting in the Chancellery, the federal government wanted to provide information about the national security strategy, which also affects the state governments because of the state responsibility for cyber defense and disaster control. Wüst criticized that the debate about accelerated planning law had been taken off the agenda again because there were still differences within the traffic light government of the SPD, Greens and FDP.
