Lazarus Group stole $625M worth of Ethereum and USDC

Sky Mavis, which runs Axie Infinity, hosted the biggest crypto hit in history on March 23. About $625 million worth of Ethereum and USDC tokens were stolen from the Ronin blockchain. Play-to-win game Axie Infinity has also been blacklisted by the US for a while.

The FBI made a targeted statement on the subject. According to the statement, hackers named Lazarus Group carried out the attack. The group lives in North Korea and is supported by the state. Another claim of the FBI is that this attack took place with the knowledge of North Korea. The statement made the following statements on the subject:

The FBI continues to combat malicious cyber activity, including the threat from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to the United States and our private sector partners. Through our investigation, we were able to confirm that Lazarus Group and APT38, cyber actors linked to the DPRK, were responsible for the $620 million theft in Ethereum reported on March 29.

Ronin Network also made a statement about the stolen amounts. Accordingly, hackers stole approximately 173600 ethereum and 25.5 million USDC worth of stablecoins. Hackers are protected by Tornado Cash, a service that hides where the flow of crypto is coming from. In addition, North Korea, where many crypto thefts took place, became the focus of criticism on this issue.
