St. Pauli 3-0 against HSV: red for Sebastian Schonlau brings record win | Sports

In the end it was like so often. FC St. Pauli also celebrated in the ninth second division derby. The 3-0 win in front of 29,205 spectators in the party temple Millerntor was the fifth success in the lower house over city rivals HSV.

Sports director Andreas Bornemann (51) on the TV channel “Sky” is happy: “We keep a clean sheet in the derby and score three goals against the leader. It doesn’t get any better than that.”

Eric Smith (61st), Marcel Hartel (74th) and David Otto (89th) scored for the hosts.

Especially bitter for HSV: It was the highest derby swatter in professional football. In February 1960 in what was then the Oberliga Nord, the Rothosen got under the wheels like this (1:4).

The key scene was in the 28th minute when HSV captain Sebastian Schonlau (28) was sent off with a red card after an emergency brake.

HSV coach Tim Walter (46): “For me, that’s the crucial scene. You can give the card like this. Schonlau isn’t that lucky.”

After seven games without a win (four points), St. Pauli coach Timo Schultz (44) unpacked a special derby tactic. He let his troops act in a 5:3:2 system. Schultz: “I have to give my boys a lot of praise. We only had three days to rehearse it. They did that well.”

The hosts also had more chances before Schonlau was sent off and were the more dangerous team overall.

Midfielder Marcel Hartel (26): “I’m glad we have something to celebrate again. After so many games without a win, we finally got three points again.”

HSV came with eight away wins in a row. And six unbeaten appearances (16 points). Both series broke down at the Millerntor. In the end there was frustration.

Midfielder Jonas Meffert (28): “For me, tomorrow is not over. It’s not fun to lose here.”

Goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes (29): “Today and tomorrow it hurts, then we have to clear our heads.”

HSV has to play again in the DFB Cup on Tuesday. At Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. St. Pauli makes a guest appearance at SC Freiburg on Wednesday. Despite the short break, Schultz gave a celebration command.

The coach: “I told the boys to enjoy the day and celebrate. That’s part of football. That happens far too little these days.”

► Lots of Pyro burned in both blocks in the stadium. The HSVer ignited rockets for all Pauli hits. Otherwise, it was mostly quiet in the arena.
