The cancellation of the Spider-Man multiplayer game first became rumored when hackers revealed a project roadmap that made no mention of the game. Journalist Jason Schreier, a well-known face in the gaming press, confirmed these rumors in a news article published in Bloomberg.
Schreier spoke with sources familiar with Insomniac’s plans, who confirmed that the Spider-Man multiplayer game was, in fact, canceled a long time ago. Unfortunately, the news does not provide further information about the reasons behind the cancellation.

The reasons for the cancellation of Resistance 4 remain unclear, but the shelving of Sunset Overdrive 2 is attributed to Sony’s acquisition of Insomniac Games. With Microsoft retaining the publishing rights to the Sunset Overdrive brand, the chances of Sony greenlighting the project seem extremely low.
