Competition in the electric car market is getting fiercer. On the one hand, the leading names of the industry abandon internal combustion engines, on the other hand, new initiatives are emerging. Lightyear, one of them, introduced its first solar-powered electric car model, called Lightyear 0, at the event it held in the Netherlands!

The Lightyear 0 isn’t the first solar-powered electric car ever introduced. Even Mercedes introduced a similar concept vehicle last year. But Lightyear is determined to sell this car. Moreover, for a very salty price of 250 thousand Euros (4.5 million TL excluding taxes).
When the first prototype of the Lightyear 0 model was introduced, it was said to have a range of 720+ km. The vehicle we see today offers a range of 625 km. But still, let’s say it’s a good value compared to the tools on the market.
Mercedes unveils electric concept vehicle with a range of 1000 kilometers
Mercedes introduced its new concept electric car, the Vision EQXX, at the event it held before the CES 2022 fair today.
Moreover, it takes 70 km of this range from its battery, which it fills thanks to the 4.8 m2 solar energy panels located on it. In other words, in a standard urban usage scenario, you can use your vehicle without having to take it to a station and charge it.
Of course, if you live in an area with a winter season, you may need to charge it occasionally. Because the vehicle’s solar panels can fill up enough to allow you to travel approximately 35 km on a clear day. In fact, according to Lightyear’s claim, you can use it for two months in climates like the Netherlands and seven months in Spain or Portugal without charging.
The vehicle with 174 horsepower can produce 1,720 nm of torque. 0-100 acceleration is just under 10 seconds. In addition, the highest cruising speed is 160 km. Although its torque is impressive, it lags behind its competitors in horsepower and other issues.
But it should be noted that Lightyear does not already make such a claim. Even with the first vehicle they will put on sale, you can stay away from the charging station for long periods of time by making a full charge once. It also comes with many cutting-edge technologies such as phone-as-key, over-the-air software updates, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
