So many trainees are missing in Germany

In Germany there is a lack of trainees.

Dusseldorf The new training year is just around the corner – and once again there are too few young people in Germany who are aiming for in-company training. The gap of vacancies is even widening. That has a lot to do with the demographic development, at the same time numerous young people are drawn to the universities.

The development is alarming for Germany as a business location: Today’s gap in apprenticeships is tomorrow’s shortage of skilled workers.

It is still the classics that are at the top of the most popular training occupations: automotive mechatronics technician and clerk for the office. The digital transformation of the economy is not adequately reflected here.

Industry, trade and crafts train most of the young people. Public service, agriculture and housekeeping bring up the rear.
