“Second-class charging stations” on the Autobahn

Dusseldorf If you want to charge an electric car on the Autobahn, you can almost only do so at Tank & Rast: The company holds 90 percent of all concessions for rest stops and petrol stations on German Autobahns, most of which have charging stations. With one exception, there are no charging stations at the unmanned rest areas of the federal government, which usually only have one toilet building.

But now charging facilities are to be created at 200 of these federally owned freeway parking lots. They are part of the “Germany network”, in which 1,000 new fast-charging stations financed by the federal government are being set up in municipalities and on the motorway. The tender is currently running.
