Dusseldorf At SAP, there is a constant battle over budgets: The software manufacturer offers hundreds of products that require security updates and new functions. The management around CEO Christian Klein is therefore driving a “strategic initiative” to simplify the portfolio: investments should only flow into projects that promise growth.

SAP is no longer developing special software for hospitals and recently sold the Litmos learning platform. When it comes to consolidation, Klein does not stop at well-known names: According to information from the Handelsblatt, the medium-sized software Business ByDesign, which was once considered a product of the future, is due to undergo far-reaching changes in the new year.
