Rheinmetall is interested in around 500 Panther battle tanks

With the new development of what it says is the strongest battle tank in the world, Rheinmetall wants to counter the expansion of the competition.

Berlin After the surprising presentation in June, Rheinmetall boss Armin Papperger reports that there is great demand for the new “Panther” main battle tank. “Across Europe, around 1,000 of the 8,000 main battle tanks will be replaced by 2030. With our new Panther we want to deliver at least half of the volume, i.e. around 500 units,” Armin Papperger told the Handelsblatt. So far, the model has been offered to representatives from more than 20 nations.

Rheinmetall had unexpectedly presented the KF51 Panther at the Paris armaments fair Eurosatory as a successor to the Leopard 2. The Rhinelanders are involved in the production of the Leopard, but only as a junior partner. Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) is in the lead. Papperger now wants to step out of the rival’s shadow.
