Berlin Managerial jobs are becoming increasingly unattractive – especially for women: In a survey by the company network “Initiative Chefsache”, only 29 percent of the managers surveyed said they wanted more responsibility. Only 23 percent of women wanted this. A tenth of bosses, on the other hand, would like less responsibility.

The numbers hardly differ from those of all employees who were also surveyed: only 28.9 percent – men 33.4, women 24.7 – want to lead at some point in their professional life. These are fewer than ever since 2018, when the initiative first asked.

At that time, 36.6 percent of women and 44.1 percent of men were still striving to climb the career ladder. At the same time, however, more than half of the employees (58 percent) would be willing to change jobs and give up prestige and money for a job that they consider to be socially meaningful.
